1.              Don Libby, citizen of New Gloucester, agreed to serve as moderator (if nominated) for our June 5th School Budget Meeting. Mr. Towle, Director of Finance and Operations, and I met with Mr. Libby on Friday, May 16, to create the meeting process. During the Discussion of tonightÕs meeting, Mr. Towle and I will review the structure of the Budget Meeting and the roles of the School Board.

 

2.              A newsletter was sent via email and student totes informing parents of the CommissionerÕs acceptance of MSAD #15Õs request to submit an Alternative Plan to consolidation. In addition, parents were also reminded of the School Board voting process. The newsletter is included in your Board packet and is placed on the DistrictÕs web page.

 

3.              An article on school consolidation was in the Gray-New Gloucester Independent. In addition, Gray-New Gloucester schools were mentioned in Down East MagazineÕs article on snow days.

 

4.              I attended the monthly construction meeting and was informed that the front entrance of the high school will be ready by May 23.

 

5.              Russell School Concert was held at the Middle School on May 15. There was a large audience who appreciated the outstanding performance. Both the High School and Middle School presented an art show, and the Middle SchoolÕs chorus performed. Dunn SchoolÕs concert is scheduled for May 20. Hello, Dolly, the HS/MS musical will be performed a Middle School on May 22, 23, 24.

 

6.              I attended a community forum hosted by 21 Reasons on May 12. 21 Reasons is currently helping to develop a substance abuse prevention coalition in the Casco Bay Region, which includes Cumberland, N. Yarmouth, Falmouth, Gray, New Gloucester and Freeport. This organization is part of MaineÕs Environmental Substance Abuse Prevention Program. Paul Penna, Principal, Teri Hagelin, Guidance, Randy Staples, Resource Officer, Joan Tremberth, Adult Education, and Karen Caprio, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development also attended. The forum was part of a weeklong campaign against underage drinking held at the high school.

 

7.              Interviews for the Athletic Director are complete, and a candidate will be nominated to the Board tonight. I want to thank the interview committee for their work: Sheri Robinson, School Board; Paul Penna, HS Principal; Sherry Levesque, MS Principal; Aaron Talon, Teacher/Coach; Tina Martell, Parent and Project Team Work; Elyse Dole and Kyle Orlando, students.

 

8.              Resignations:

 

9.              Mr. Mike Boles, JV Boys Baseball Coach effective May 15. A replacement coach has been assigned.

 

Doug Driesen, Maintenance/Transportation Manager resigned effective June 30. Mr. Towle, Director of Finance and Operations, posted the vacancy, and an interview committee will be created. The Personnel Committee did create a new job description to replace the current position titled Manager of Facilities and Transportation. MSAD #15 is searching for a candidate who will manage this consolidated position.

 

 

10.           I attended training on the DistrictÕs new communication system, School Messenger. A presentation will be given to Board on June 4 regarding the implementation plan.
