Re:       SuperintendentÕs Report

Fr:       Victoria Burns, Superintendent

Date:    December 16, 2009

1.         School was cancelled due to weather on December 9. The last student day will be June 16th.

2.         I attended the Cumberland County SuperintendentÕs Meeting on December 10th. Local legislators were invited to discuss communication and partnership in these difficult financial times. Representative David Van Wie, New Gloucester, attended. The Commissioner discussed the StateÕs applications for the Race to the Top federal grants and other legislative proposals to save money without reducing services, such as revision of some special education laws to reflect federal standards, possible retirement incentives for teachers, and regional transportation pilots. Commissioner Gendron stressed that future federal guidelines for state-funding applications will tie principal and teacher evaluations to student achievement. She also stated that District should have the 2010-2011 budget subsidy numbers sometime in February.

3.         During the past week I have observed two special education, self-contained classrooms and one high school art class.

4.         Sheila Giancola, School Nurse, informed me that the High School H1N1 Vaccine Completion Clinic will take place on Tuesday, December 15th, starting at 8:00 a.m. This clinic is only for those high school students who were originally signed up for the 11/13/09 clinic but who, due to insufficient supply of vaccine, were not immunized that day.
