Fr: Victoria Burns, Superintendent
Date: September 17, 2008
1. On September 11, 2008, a Recognition Ceremony for Cdr. Robert Schlegel, who was killed on September 11th, was held at his memorial on the high school field. Students, staff, Sue Austin, State Representative, and Col. Farnsworth recognized the sacrifice of the Schlegel family and a statement of recognition was given to David Schlegel, RobertÕs brother.
2. In your packet tonight is a renewal of the Christopher Aaron Counseling Center Contract that I signed on behalf of MSAD #15. This contract was approved by the School Board last year. Christopher Aaron provides outpatient mental health services for eligible students attending schools within MSAD #15. Parents pay for the service, and MSAD#15 provides a space and phone access to the counselor. Christopher Aaron provides transportation to and from their clinic during the school day at the Middle School and High School with parent permission. This service is supported by administration because it provides mental health services needed by students through a schedule that supports family access.
3. Also in your packet is the nomination of Frederick A. van Mourik, M.D. for appointment as the DistrictÕs school physician to advise the school board on school health issues, policies, and practices. Dr. van Mourik is an important source of consultation for the school nurses. The appointment is required annually by Chapter 125 8.07 of Maine Law. Dr. van Mourik has an office in Gray, Maine.
4. Three part-time support staff positions, discussed at the September 3 meeting, are on the Action agenda tonight. Mr. Towle, clarified the need for two (10 hours weekly) custodial positions to clean Central Office and the Bus Garage. Custodians who have been doing this job are unable to schedule these hours into current schedules. In your packet is the rationale and fund source for these two part-time positions. In addition, a new position has been created to provide mail service among the schools. A job description was approved by Personnel. It is included in your packet as well as the new job position form.
