Re:       SuperintendentÕs Report

Fr:       Victoria Burns, Superintendent

Date:    January 7, 2009

1.         Welcome to 2009! School resumed on January 5th after the holiday break. Two snow days and a delayed start impacted our schedule during the month of December. There are three remaining snow days for the 08-09 school year.

2.         On January 8, Dr. Rich, Sandra MacDonald, Terry Towle and I are attending a Maine School Management Association and Drummond Woodsum presentation titled: Navigating Difficult Budget Issues. This workshop is intended to give an overview of the legal issues associated with school budgets.

3.         The three buses on the current Middle School and High School after school activity bus service were consolidated into two buses. There will a bus designated for Gray and one for New Gloucester. There were insufficient numbers of students riding the activity bus to warrant two buses for the Town of Gray. Data related to the activity bus will be gathered for discussion during the 09-10 budget process.

4.         Karen Caprio, Director of Curriculum and Staff Development, and I are in the process of planning the January 28 Board Workshop. The DistrictÕs 5-year goals will be developed at that meeting. In addition, the Student Population/Facilities Committee will make its recommendations regarding the impact of the increased K-2 student enrollment at Dunn School.

5.         Deborah Reynolds, Central Office/Maintenance Administrative Assistant, is resigning her position as of January 6, 2009. Ms. Reynolds has been employed at MSAD #15 for ten years and is leaving the District to work at another position. We will miss her and wish her well in her new career.
