ADULT EDUCATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS

 

State law authorizes admission to Adult Education programs for any resident, 17 years of age or above, who is not pursuing a full-time high school diploma program. But, approval of the Superintendent and Director of Adult Education is required for the admission of persons less than 17 years of age to Adult Education programs.

 

MSAD 15 Adult & Community Education will provide educational services to highs school age students who have interrupted education, with the following limitations:

(a)  No student will be allowed to enroll in Adult Ed high school diploma programs in the same semester of his/her complete termination from the day program.

(b)  No student under the age of 17 will be allowed to earn high school credits in an adult education program, except by approval of the Superintendent of Schools. (See Enrollments for Sponsoring Units)

The Guidance Department of Gray-New Gloucester High School will promptly notify the Adult Education Office of all dropouts for the purpose of further counseling.

 

Enrollments of In School Youths

Students 17 years of age or older, enrolled in a regular program of study at Gray-New Gloucester High School may participate in adult to satisfy graduation requirements. The following requirements must be met:

(a) It is the intention of this service to provide the opportunity for timely graduation and the service should be limited to graduating seniors,

(b). Students desiring to attend adult education programs for the purpose of completion of diploma requirements shall be referred to adult education by a guidance counselor with approval of the principal, stating the requirements to be fulfilled and the date of H.S. graduation.

 

Enrollments from Neighboring Units

It is the purpose of the adult education program to provide services to residents of MSAD 15. No active day program student from a neighboring unit will be allowed to participate in adult education programs without a superintendentÕs referral from the neighboring district. The referral must include:

 

(a)   A statement of need for diploma completion

(b)  A statement of unavailability of an appropriate adult program in the sending district,

(c)   A statement of acceptability of credit for the adult program selected

(d)  The commitment to pay the District .1 (one-tenth) of the current per student subsidy allocation for secondary students as tuition for each course selected.

 

Referred students will be notified if space is available in the course selected. Priority will be given to MSAD 15 residents.

 

An Adult Education counselor shall provide services to school age Adult Ed high school diploma enrollees at no cost to the individual.
