ENGLISH AS THE LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

 

English shall be the language of instruction in all elementary and secondary schools except in foreign language courses and as approved in Maine law. The District will provide students language support services for students entering District schools whose primary language is other than English. As required by Federal law, the goal for students with limited proficiency in English is that the student demonstrates the English language skills of comprehension, speaking, reading and writing which are necessary for learning and achieving at a level substantially equivalent to pupils whose primary language is English.
