Agenda:

1. Introductions   & Parking Lot : Using the process tools introduced by RISC we used the parking lot (long term and short term) to capture questions, comments, concerns or great ideas. Each person introduced themselves and school they work in or school their children attend.                                    
2. Establish Norms (Effective Group Exercise): Bruce Beasley led the group in establishing Norms that will help facilitate meetings. The Norms are:

1.     Regularly use the tools from RISC model

2.     Be respectful of all opinions

3.     Communicate honestly

4.     Equal opportunity for all voices

5.     Discretion in the meeting and message going out

a.     be attentive to the meeting

b.     no side conversations

6.     Meeting time: Begin and end on time, with flexibility if the discussion needs to continue

7.     Stay on agenda

8.     Use Process Observer, Time Keeper, Facilitator

9.     Be willing to take risks, think outside the box

 

3. Update on progress from Action Plans: Shared Vision and next steps for gathering information from all stakeholders.
1. Each of the schools gave a summary of where they are in the process for shared vision and shared leadership.

                                               i.     K-2: Have asked parents for feedback on vision 3 questions , collected and reviewed PBIS, RTI unpacking the standards /vision. NEED: K-5 staff need to have the day long workshop.

                                             ii.     3-4: Parent survey on three questions, staff reviewed results, Administration and selected staff have attended additional workshops. Need: Parent survey revisited, schedule breakfasts to gather more information and review survey questions. Start a discussion group on Delivering on the Promise.

                                            iii.     5-8: Introduced concept to staff on Aug, 26th, have further reviewed tools with staff, many staff are using tools in classrooms, gathered input from students at the wellness day and have reviewed feedback from completed parent surveys. NEED: Discussion for what 21st Century Skills are with all parties, send teachers and students to conferences.

                                            iv.     9-12: Workshop attended by parents, students and staff on Aug. 26th. Integrating the concept of RISC into PLCs this year. Completed student surveys. NEED: Identify and solicit stakeholder input, staff training and identify Beacon teachers.

2. Vicky will ask Teachers Association about swapping the Jan. day for the March Professional day for K-5 teachers only. If this is not acceptable, we will offer the training on March 26th workshop day for K-5.

 

4. OSAT Update: Using clock partners each small group reviewed our progress on the OSAT and reported out. There was dicussion on two areas and the group decided that we would change one. Under Shared Vision: Input and Communication we will be at Awareness vs. Understanding.

 

5. Purpose of the Council Prioritize: Supt. Burns talked about the purpose of the Council in the work for developing Shared Vision and Leadership as well as continually redefining as the group evolves into a clearinghouse for curriculum, instruction and assessment.

                                               

6. Other:

 

1. Parking lot: We clarified that we are the Council for Continuous Improvement
2. Long Term: Will programs like Investigations and Treasures merge with RISC?
