Updates:

High School: Collected and collated all survey data from students, staff and parents. 72-82% of students responded. Several parents and 100% staff. 7-8 teachers atttending winter symposium, 25 students representing the full spectrum of our population. 5 teachers eager to attend Beacon teacher training. We have focused on getting all content areas on board. Some resistance to implementing the tools as a schoolwide agenda item. Some fear seems to be present. Three after school training sessions are planned We are anxious RichÕs visit later in January.

Middle School: 4 teachers attending the training next week. Feel that we are in a holding pattern waiting to hear about parent meeting. We have a date for the staff shared vision.

Dunn School: Class continues, 5 teachers attending winter training. Introduced the toolkit to staff and will do a followup. Beacon Teachers have been using the tools, creating classroom vision and code of conduct. What skills does a successful 3rd grade student need? Students came up with the same reading, writing, math, listening skills. Sue talked with her class about problem solving skills. Seems to have had a positive response at Dunn. Beacon teachers will be observed by RISC staff at the end of January.

Russell: 4 teachers attending symposium. The 2 Beacon teachers have been working together. Kelly has aligned the reading program and the math program standards. Getting a great response from most students. Some students are hesitant about taking on the responsibility. Good feedback from parents. Working on the time issue. Kelly is looking forward to RichÕs visit to help out and clarify some questions. Staff is learning more and using tools building-wide.

Memorial: two teachers going to symposium, three attending Beacon training in March. Staff started the book, Delivering on the Promise, staff book share. Collecting shared vision.

Professional Development: staff and students will be attending the Winter Symposium Jan 20-22., District will sponsor the K-5 workshop on introduction to RISC model. Beacon Teachers will have visitations from RISC staff at the end of the month.

Focus of Today's Meeting:

  1. School Shared Vision Data: Look at the data collected to date from staff, students and parents to identify the emerging themes. Use this data to plan the district workshop for creating a shared vision.
