Special Education Update

In MSAD #15 we encourage parents to become active participants in their child's special education experience. This year, the Special Services department will be offering quarterly parent meetings. Click here for details. All parent meetings will occur in the new Special Services Office conference room now located at GNGHS. Please call the office for more information.

Special Education

Every student with a disability has a right to a free, appropriate public education. MSAD 15 assures that every child of school age eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act will receive an appropriate program of instruction and supportive services designed to meet his or her individual needs. Special education services are provided to Gray and New Gloucester students by certified and/or licensed professionals or supervised support staff at no cost to the parents.
Special Education Services are provided in accordance with the Maine Unified Special Education Regulation, Birth to Age Twenty, Chapter 101. Chapter 101 and the Procedural Safeguards Notice can be downloaded from the State of Maine Department of Education site.
MSAD #15 seeks to ensure that all children residing in the jurisdiction between the ages of 5 and 20 years who are in need of special education and related services, even if they are advancing from grade to grade, are identified, located and evaluated at public expense. Please see MSAD 15's Child Find Responsibilities.
There are many local and state resources available to assist families with children with disabilities. Click here for a list of special education resources and upcoming workshop opportunities available to families throughout the State of Maine.
